Amazon Kindle
Kindle devices are easy to use within the Amazon ecosystem. However, they are poorly designed and therefore can spontaneously brick themselves, with no way to repair them.
Factory reset
These instructions are from a discussion with an Amazon support representative.
- Connect Kindle to your computer using a USB cable.
- Create an empty document in the root folder named DO_FACTORY_RESTORE.
- Remove the addition from the DO_FACTORY_RESTORE document.
- Click on the “Start” menu.
- Tap the “Folder Options” in the Windows search bar and select them.
- Select the tab to “Display”.
- Make sure that hiding additions for documents is turned off.
- Click Apply.
- Safely remove the device (this should go through the taskbar on Windows - right click on a picture and select “Securely remove hardware” and then click on it and select Kindle.
- Do a device restart by pressing the power button again 40s.
Android
There are no e-ink devices that can run LineageOS (as of 2022, Reddit).
